Toyota is reportedly preparing a new-generation Corolla, with production in China expected to begin in 2028, according to reports citing Nikkei Asia.
Electric for the first time
The car is expected to be built by FAW Toyota, Toyota's joint venture with China FAW Group. Rather than going electric-only, Toyota is reportedly planning a flexible lineup: fully electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and petrol, which would make it the first fully electric Corolla.
Why it matters
The Corolla has sold over 57 million units worldwide, and the hybrid Corolla is already a favourite with Australian rideshare drivers. A global reveal is expected around 2027. Toyota has not confirmed Australian plans for the electric version.
